What Do I Want for My Birthday?

Friends to Sweat With!

My birthday is coming up. As I'm sure most of you know already, I've become a gym rat in the past year. It's more rewarding than I ever would have expected, but I'd like to share the experience with more of my friends. I'm always on the lookout for someone that wants to join me at any of my favorite boutique gyms - and several of you have joined me already. So when it came time to think about a birthday event, I realized what I wanted more than anything was for all my favorite people to show up at my favorite classes. In that spirit, I have picked two super fun and totally doable classes! You do not need to be in shape to take these classes.

The best gift you could give me would be to come to one (or both!) of these classes.

Both of these gyms offer deals for first-time customers, so please tell them that if it's your first time. If the cost of the class is bumming you out, I have some free passes for just such an occasion. Just send me an email.

For each of these events, I've planned a food excursion afterwards. So if you can't or don't want to make the class, please feel free to meet up with us afterwards.

FlyWheel is my go-to cardio workout. It takes place on a bicycle. This class is taught by my all-time favorite instructor, Kenneth Ferrer. I guarantee that you will come out of this class a changed person. It's fun, fast-paced, and there are races! You don't have to participate in the races, but the competitive component is what makes it so exhilarating. You're in control of the resistance on the bike, so you can go as light or as hard as you like.

After class, we'll go to Oramen for dinner. If you prefer to skip the class and just join us for ramen, that's an option.

FlyWheel provides shoes and water for you. All you need are workout clothes.

The class is $15 for first timers.

Who doesn't love to punch things? It's time to tap into that well of rage you didn't know was hidden inside you. ShadowBox is a boxing class. Everyone gets their own bag. The class starts off with a description of all the punches to be thrown and then we start in with the punching. It's a lot of fun and afterwards we'll go find some nerds to pick fights with.

I know this class is early on a Saturday morning, so there's an extra-special reward for attending: I'm going to Donut Plant afterwards for a birthday donut (or two).

You will need to rent gloves from the studio. You will also need to purchase wraps which they sell at the front desk. You will want to bring an empty water bottle.

The class is $20 for first timers + $1 glove rental + $4 wraps (which you can take home and use in the future).
